    How HydroClaw Works

    HydroClaw is a heavy-duty steel clamp and bracket that mounts directly to any structural member or unistrut channel. The tank sits securely in the clamp cradle, transferring all weight to the building structure — not your piping.

    What's in the Bag

    HydroClaw comes in two halves: one half mounts to the wall or structure, the other clamps the tank in place. The rubber lining inside the clamp reduces friction, keeps the tank from sliding, and prevents metal-on-metal contact. Mounting hardware to attach the tank to the HydroClaw is included.

    Mounting Requirements

    HydroClaw must be anchored to structure — concrete, a wooden wall or framing member, or unistrut channel. If mounting over sheetrock, there must be structure behind it. The bracket accepts 5/16" or 3/8" lag screws or bolts (fasteners selected to suit the substrate).

    Compatibility

    Compatible with 8" nominal and 11" nominal hydronic, thermal, radiant and solar expansion tanks. Some examples are Amtrol's EX-15, EX-30 and EX-60 hydronic tanks, Amtrol's T-5, ST-5, T-12, and ST-12 thermal tank and many other popular manufacturers tanks.     What is an expansion tank?
    A safety device in hydronic heating and plumbing systems that absorbs increased water volume as it heats, preventing dangerous pressure buildup.
    Why do tanks become waterlogged?
    The internal bladder can fail over time, allowing the tank to fill with water. A waterlogged #30 weighs ~45 lbs; a #60 reaches ~72 lbs. The internal bladder of a tank is not impervious to the air going through it. It is common for a tank to lose 1 to 2 psi of air pressure per year even though the bladder has not failed. The air pressure in the tank should be checked yearly.
    What sizes does HydroClaw support?
    Standard #30 and #60 diaphragm expansion tanks from virtually all manufacturers, plus thermal-type water heater tanks. HydroClaw Jr. for #15 tanks is coming soon.
    Can it mount to unistrut?
    Yes — HydroClaw mounts to any structural member including unistrut channel.
